Parson’s Chicken & Fish: What We’ve Been Dreaming Of

» By Katherine Leonard · in Food + Drink
At long last, Parson’s Chicken & Fish (@parsonschi, 2952 W. Armitage Ave.) has opened its doors to the public. The latest project from the team behind neighborhood favorite Longman & Eagle has been highly anticipated, not just by the neighborhood, but by the big dogs at Eater National. Thanks to the handiwork of a friend at I Am Logan Square, I scored a seat at the restaurant’s soft opening earlier this month.

Stories from the Square: Meet Erik Niewiarowski

» By Josh Allard · in Neighborhood
Imagine with me that you’re in a small dark room that smells vaguely of cigarettes and beer. Your palms are sweaty. You’re full of nervous energy, bouncing a bit from foot to foot because you know any minute you’re going to hear your name called. When you hear your name, you’re going to get on stage, pick up a microphone and make a room full of strangers laugh—for 20 minutes. For many of us, this sounds like a recurring nightmare. For Erik Niewiarowski, it sounds like a typical Friday night.

First Impressions: People Who Move to Logan Square

» By Myles Dannhausen Jr. · in Neighborhood
Amanda Failla’s first moments as a Chicagoan were not the stuff of dreams. She was taking a leap of faith moving to Chicago, but her first look at her new apartment didn’t instill any sense of certainty either. Her brother-in-law, who had helped her move her belongings, nearly didn’t let her stay. “We got to the apartment and my brother took one look at it and said I was not to live there–my family would disown him if he let me live there,” Failla says.

The Dill Pickle: A Co-op for a Common Cause

» By Amanda Elliott · in Food + Drink
There’s something amazing that happens when a community rallies behind a common cause. To take it a step further, it's even more amazing when that community is held accountable for growing and nurturing that cause. Logan Square’s neighborhood co-operative, the Dill Pickle Food Co-op (@dillpicklecoop, 3039 W. Fullerton Ave.), has been owned, financed, operated and sustained for three and a half years by its members, and is precisely that amazingness.
