The Red Lion Pub and Grill (2906 W. Armitage Ave.) held a soft opening on June 21. Owners say they aim to bring affordable and tasty dishes with a British flair to Logan Square residents.
This Red Lion Pub and Grill is not related to the former Lincoln Square pub, despite popular speculation. This new venture is set to bring variety of dishes—with an emphasis on British grub—with cheaper prices and larger portions for hearty eaters on a budget.
Susan Espinoza, the general manager, recommends the lamb stew as both a personal and a customer favorite. The Red Lion burger, with toppings like grilled onions and havarti dill, has been another popular item with guests.
The more traditional pub items featured include Bangers’N Mash, Shepherd’s Pie, Welsh Rarebit and The Ploughman’s Lunch—a house salad with a loaf of bread, sharp cheddar, apple slices and mango chutney. On weekends, they offer a Beef Guinness dinner for $12.
The current menu is a teaser for a more expansive menu to come, and management is taking into consideration the requests of their customers. Espinoza promises that the new menu will also include more vegan and vegetarian options.
Grand Opening Soon
The Red Lion Pub and Grill officials say a grand opening is in the works in the next few weeks. Espinoza says that the team was excited to open their doors to the Logan Square neighborhood because of all the exciting changes in the area.
They are currently awaiting the liquor license to round out of the “pub” part of the license but have confidence that the menu differentiates themselves enough in the meantime to bring in a great crowd.
