The Logan Square Farmers Market (LSFM, @lsfarmersmarket) is seeking musicians to perform at the Indoor Market, which takes place every Sunday in the lobby of the Congress Theater (@congresstheater, 2135 N. Milwaukee Ave.).
This is a unique performance opportunity for neighborhood musicians who specialize in background music: be they of a folk, classical or electronic orientation. Logan Square-based musicians, soloists or small groups who can cover three hours (11am–2pm) would be ideal.
Unlike the Outdoor Market, which has evolved into a carnival atmosphere, the Indoor Market is a more relaxed environment. The acoustics in the Congress Theater lobby are cavernous, so the location isn’t ideal for vocal-heavy music or musicians with horns. However, local instrumentalists whose artistic focus runs toward the ambient may enjoy this opportunity. There also is access to electricity in the venue, so amplification can be used.

Keep in mind that the music is to support the vibe of the market: People are there to shop, not attend a concert, and it is a family event. Artists eager to accept this role and create a special atmosphere for their neighbors are welcome.
The stage is the platform landing on the giant lobby staircase, so performers get an amazing bird’s eye view of the Market, not to mention the beautiful large front windows.
Performers are allowed to sell CDs or other merchandise, as well as collect tips, but no compensation is offered from the Market. Although the opportunity isn’t especially lucrative, an artist will receive considerable local exposure and will be promoted in the LSFM newsletter.
