Logan Square restaurants have earned a starring role in national food magazine Bon Appétit’s Grub Crawl-Chicago event, a “moveable feast” that brings food lovers inside the kitchens of acclaimed local chefs. The Windy City will be the second leg on the event’s tour of the country, which also includes stops in New York, Charleston, Los Angeles and Miami.
New to the grub crawl concept? Think bar crawl, but substitute the beer with a curated dining experience. The Chicago stop will feature two sessions, including one during the day and one at night. The Day Crawl will hit notable West Loop restaurants including Nellcôte, Avec and Blackbird, while the Night Crawl will hone in on Logan Square’s food scene. Night Crawlers will hit five establishments immediately surrounding Centennial Monument, starting with Logan Square Auditorium for cocktails and appetizers, followed by Billy Sunday, Telegraph, Reno and Jam.
Asked why Logan Square was selected with the whole city to choose from, Bon Appétit noted that “the editors picked these restaurants because they’re simply really great restaurants and are serving great food, very hospitable, generally the types of places they’d want to eat—so hitting up five of them in one night is any true food lovers dream!”
The Night Crawl is scheduled for Saturday, June 8 at 6 pm. LoganSquarist readers can score 30% off ticket prices with this link (no promo code necessary). Check out the full evening program below.
Kickoff Event: Logan Square Auditorium: Typically a night at Logan Square Auditorium would involve some live music from Chicago’s hottest bands, but on June 8, the venue will transform to host Grub Crawl–Chi-Town’s kickoff event, where we’ll start things off with signature cocktails and tasty treats.
Billy Sunday: Travel back in time and revel in the novelty of this decadent space as you sip rare spirits with obscure ingredients, such as ambergris. Not only tasty but interesting as well.
Telegraph: At this natural wine bar, Grub Crawlers will sip rare, European wines from family-owned producers, curated by sommelier Jeremy Quinn, with seasonal, inventive cuisine crafted by chef Johnny Anderes.
Reno: In the heart of Logan Square, this casual atmosphere is the perfect stop for hungry Grub Crawlers to savor chef Johnny Anderes’s seasonal dishes made in-house from local, organic ingredients.
Jam: Chef Jeffrey Mauro (formerly of Charlie Trotter’s and North Pond) transforms this local brunch favorite so that Grub Crawlers can enjoy finely crafted brunch bites—after hours.
