After an unusual cold snap, Logan Square warmed up again just in time for our Neighbor Meetup on Aug. 21 at Paladar’s new location on Western Avenue (@PaladarChicago, 2252 N. Western Ave.).
Owner Jose Gonzalez, who also owns Logan Square’s beloved El Cid (@ElCidChicago, 2645 N. Kedzie Ave.) has successfully transformed the new location (formerly Cafe Bolero) into a Cuban getaway with a warm atmosphere and a cozy new patio.
Around 30 neighbors and LoganSquarist Ambassadors took over the new space’s Havana-themed bar and enjoyed delicious margarita and sangria specials, as well as tasty Cuban cuisine. Many spent time poring over the bar’s extensive cocktail menu that features “over 30 premium and sipping rums.”
The Flavors of Cuba Platter was a hit with attendees looking to get a sampling of the restaurant’s menu, while others enjoyed classic dishes such as the Cuban Sandwich. One neighbor labeled the croquettas as “my new favorite.”
The event was most crowded around 8 pm, as more first-timers trickled into the restaurant’s back bar. There was a great mixture of meetup “regulars” and new attendees, leading to the exchange of many stories about how some came to live in Logan Square and their favorite spots in the neighborhood.
Overall, the August Neighbor Meetup at Paladar was a successful event, and we look forward to seeing everyone again for our next meetup, Sept. 18, 6 pm-8 pm at Bang Bang Pie Shop (@bangbangpie, 2051 N. California Ave.). See you there!
