Logan Square garage rock band The Thons brings the energy of a live show straight to the listeners home with its second album, “Thirty Foot Snake.” Recording the whole album in just one afternoon, The Thons’ follow-up is void of splices, edits and overdubs. Instruments and vocals were recorded from the same take for each song, an approach that “contradicts the modern sterilized, surgical approach to recording by combining the live energy and flaws of the band to create a unique, memorable piece of music,” according to their website.
It’s been a busy few months for The Thons, which formed in the summer of 2012. This is the band’s second recorded albums since August of 2013 (“Raw. Real. Rock” was the first). Both albums have an old-fashioned garage rock sound with a splash of surf rock with a vintage rockabilly flair. And the guys are quite the ambitious group, the Thons tells LoganSquarist it wants to release two more albums this year.
The Thons are looking to connect with other musicians in the area as well. If you’d like to play a show with The Thons, you can reach them here.
