Meet John Kitzmiller, an IT professional who gets to travel the world but calls Logan Square his home.
Occupation?
I’m an IT professional helping the enterprise succeed with the Apple platform.
Relationship status?
In a relationship
How long have you lived in Logan Square?
I’ve lived in Logan Square on and off since 2010, but I’ve considered it home the entire time.
Favorite neighborhood hangouts?
When I’m in town, you’re likely to find me at Rocking Horse, New Wave, Revolution Brewing, The Logan Theater, Cozy Corner or Boiler Room.
What was the last movie you watched?
I just watched Maidentrip, which is a documentary about a 16-year-old Dutch girl who set out be the youngest person to sail around the world alone. It was very inspiring.
What would you choose to be your last meal?
It would definitely be something off the specials list at Hot Doug’s.
If you could go anywhere in the world on vacation, where would you go?
My go-to answer for this has always been either Australia or New Zealand, but over the winter I’ve had the incredible opportunity to work in both countries, so now I have to pick a new dream destination. Probably backpacking through India or Southeast Asia.
What was your most memorable birthday?
I tend to not make too much of a fuss about my birthday, but last year my friends surprised me with a homemade cake that looked like a Dalek. That was pretty cool.
Proudest moment in your life?
When my mom got her degree and started teaching. As a single mom, she raised me by herself while working and going to school. It was great to see her hard work pay off, and it taught me the value of working hard for something you want.
What did you want to be when you were little?
As long as I can remember, I wanted to be a musician. I still play guitar, so I guess I didn’t let little-me down completely!
Tips for surviving this brutal winter?
I’ve spent this winter in Sydney, Australia, so I’ve actually missed most of the bad weather. My advice is migrate somewhere warm.
Shameless self-promotion:
You can find me on Twitter at @JohnKitzmiller, or on the web at johnkitzmiller.com.
Any last thoughts?
I seem to be away more than I’m home these days, but I’d love to meet more of my neighbors. If you see me out and about, don’t be afraid to say “Hi!”
“Socializing the neighborhood” is at the core of the LoganSquarist mission, so we introduce readers to interesting and unique residents throughout Logan Square in our Know Your Neighbor column. If you know someone who would be ideal for to feature, let us know.
Oh hey, that’s me!
John! Awesome!
John is such a Dreamboat.
