There’s a new bar coming to Logan Square and these drinks are known for their color, not their alcohol content. Owen + Alchemy (@owenalchemy, 2355 N. Milwaukee Ave.), a vegan juice bar opening late spring in Logan Square, is offering made-to-order smoothies, seasonal nut milks on tap and a small menu of artisinal, plant-based foods such as kale chips and raw oatmeal daily from 7 am to 7 pm.
Logan Square: Chicago Neighborhood Gets Juices Flowing
Eight tables wide, this small juice bar is set to change the way people view their food.
Food has medicinal qualities, says part-owner and founder, Anne Owen. An active yogi, Owen came from the publishing world and found juicing was a quick and nutritional way to remain healthy while embracing a fast-paced, busy lifestyle. But what she also found is that juicing can seem stale.
“Having a classically trained chef involved, we didn’t want to have to play it safe,” says Owen. “Logan is open to little more experimental concepts.”
“We don’t want to be prohibitive. We just really like the vibe here.”
Owen + Alchemy hopes to give juicing a new rap.
“Why does mixology only happen at night — and with alcohol?” says Owen.
Owen has a vision to create a juice bar that is more reminiscent of an apothecary than a trendy juice bar. With a black and white, minimalist background, Owen + Alchemy puts the focus on the health benefits of their products and aims to create a daytime mixology.
Learn About Juicing and Juice Cleanses
Owen + Alchemy will be serving juices and offering three day juice cleansing plans to guide people through juice cleansing. Clients will also be able to personalize their juices and cleanse experiences. They will have two subject matter experts in nutrition and Middle Eastern medicine on select days for Q&A sessions and to teach about juicing.
Juices are all plant-based, as are the other food supplements. Many items are also gluten-free and the foods will come from local farms and be organic. Chef and part-owner Jared Van Camp will be creating organic, nutritional, cold-pressed juice. The menu will change seasonally and be structured like a wine list.
Owen + Alchemy will have a delivery program throughout Chicago and some neighboring suburbs to make juicing easier to include in your everyday life.
