Today, we rolled out a new design for LoganSquarist.com featuring improved functionality, cleaner aesthetics and other enhancements. The LoganSquarist team has been busy working tirelessly around the clock to improve the overall look and feel, topic coverage and functionality of the site in order to provide readers with a better experience.
The sleeker, cleaner and more streamlined design supports an easy-to-navigate site where topics and features are at the forefront. Additional areas of the site also have been pulled into the sidebar to make it easier for you to find them.
Lastly, we gave a few of our lesser known sections upgrades to make them more useful to you.
What’s New with LoganSquarist v. 2.0
Site changes encompass both front-end, visual adjustments, as well as enhancements under-the-hood. Here’s what you’ll find:
✶ Sleeker, cleaner, streamlined design. The most obvious and noticeable change is an overall aesthetic upgrade. We switched to a crisp white background with rich blue and black accents to highlight articles and photography in a better way. Throughout the site, this cleaner look makes it easier to read articles. Although the navigation hasn’t significantly changed, the left justified top menu bar stays visible as you scroll for easy access to main areas, while article categories are available under the banner image or at the bottom of the page in the site’s footer.
Need to find something quickly? Search functionality resides at the top right and lower left of every page. Look to the site sidebar to check the weather, find out what’s going on this week, learn more about the next LoganSquarist Neighbor Meetup or navigate recent listings in the directory.
✶ Content-focused home page. We kept the article slider at the top of the page, which rotates the five most recent published articles. However, scroll down and you’ll see a whole new home page layout that highlights each topic category we cover. The most popular topics remain toward the top of the page highlighting the two latest articles in each section. Continue to scroll, and lesser covered categories, are listed below.
We’ve also changed some of our topic category headings to provide more well-rounded editorial. We merged Arts + Entertainment into one to simplify finding anything artsy. Due to amount of coverage, we split up Politics and Crime. Family, formerly Youth + Family, still covers kids, youth and family related issues, while Living, formerly Sports + Lifestyle, encompasses health, lifestyle and beauty topics. Additionally, we added two new categories: Events and History to highlight event-type coverage and historical articles, respectively.
✶ Upgraded neighborhood directory. One of the biggest changes you’ll find is in our Neighborhood Directory. The directory received a major overhaul to include more complete listing information, search options and filters, and a Google-supported map locator.
Now navigate the more than 500 businesses, organizations, groups and other listings sorted into 350 different categories all based in Logan Square. Need to pick up some last-minute groceries, shop for a gift or find for a place to meet up with friends? Search the directory.
The advanced search lets you specify what you’re looking for even further. Everybody loves brunch in Chicago—find Logan Square’s best. Want to dine out and bring your own bottle? Check for BYOB-friendly places. Dining in tonight, but don’t want to cook? Locate places that provide delivery, takeout or online ordering. Have a dietary restriction? Search restaurants serving vegetarian, vegan or gluten free options. Need to get some work done away from the office? Find places with wifi or patios. Even look for businesses that are cash only, bike friendly or public transit accessible. Choose from all 13 search customizations by selecting “Customize My Search.”
Are we missing a business, organization or group? Help us build the most comprehensive Logan Square directory by adding a listing. We know the directory is just at its beginnings and hope you can help us make it the most encompassing guide to Logan Square. We invite business owners, artists and groups to add a listing.
See your listing already in the directory? Feel free to claim your listing to make changes.
✶ Refined events calendar. The calendar of events now expands to fill the full page for easier navigation. Events are listed by date and divided between events, meetings, concerts, films and movies, performances, art shows and family events. Know of cool upcoming event? Click the button in the upper right corner to fill out the form.
✶ Swag + merch now available. The team is probably the most excited about the new LoganSquarist Store featuring a plethora of Logan Square-inspired swag. Choose from a variety of T-shirts, bags, drinkware, buttons, posters or stickers, and sport your Logan Square pride. Prices vary from $3.50 to $80, with most T-shirt styles ranging from $20-$35. Looking for something in particular? Let us know and we’ll try to add it to our offerings.
LoganSquarist is truly a labor of love built with the help of more than 25 dedicated volunteers. We’re so excited to share this next chapter of LoganSquarist with you and continue to socialize the neighborhood. We hope you enjoy the new design of LoganSquarist and find the enhancements useful.
