The week of Jan. 20-27 saw a variety of robberies—two wherein victims were knocked down and mugged, and two committed by a Logan man who shot himself while eating the stolen goods.
Logan Man Shoots Himself While Eating Stolen Pizza
The food truck delivery robberies reported in the LoganSquarist last week were closely followed by robberies wherein the suspects ordered takeout food, then attacked the delivery drivers and stole the food. The perpetrators: a 16-year-old boy and 19-year-old man who shot himself in the finger while enjoying the fruit (technically, pizza) of their labor.
Armando Colon, of the 1800 block of N. Kimball Ave., and the boy, Deon Reece, allegedly held a deliveryman up at gunpoint on Jan. 14, then stole pizza along with cash. However, while eating the stolen Domino’s pizza, Colon shot himself in the finger. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital and released shortly thereafter.
Four days later, the pair were at it again—ordering Chinese food, then hitting the delivery driver in the face with a gun. They took $400 from the man and brought the food to an abandoned building to eat.
Reece and Colon, who were both arrested on Jan. 20, gave statements admitting to the robberies and were ordered held on $150,000 bail each, the Chicago Tribune reported.
Police Warn of Two Logan Robberies
The Chicago Police Department issued a warning in response to two strong-arm robberies in Logan Square.
The first took place at about 4 a.m. on Jan. 22 in the 2400 block of N. Milwaukee Ave., and the second took place at about 3:20 a.m. on Jan. 25 in the 3000 block of W. Belden Ave.
Both incidents involved two men approaching victims from behind and knocking them down to take their possessions.
The suspects from one robbery, who are still at large, were described as a pair of Hispanic men between 20 and 30 years old, while suspects from the other incident were allegedly black men between 25 and 40 years old.
