The Logan Square dining scene will see two big beer events at the beginning of March and two new restaurants soon after.
Competition For Chicago Breweries
Madison Public House (2200 N. Milwaukee Ave.) is hosting a Brewer’s Choice Chicago Beer Competition on March 7 from 7-10:30 pm. All 16 of Madison’s taps will feature exclusively locally brewed beers. The taps are numbered and beers will remain anonymous until the end while beer lovers taste and judge them.
The brewmasters of the respective breweries have picked their favorites to be critiqued by the beer loving guests who will be present. They will be scored on style, drinkability and “overall awesomeness.” Breweries being featured include: Ale Syndicate, Aquanaut Brewing Company, Argus Brewery, Atlas Brewing Company, Empirical Brewery, Finch’s Beer Company, Goose Island Beer Company, Half Acre Beer Company, Metropolitan Brewing, Off Color Brewing, Revolution Brewing, Slapshot Brewing Company and Une Annee.
This is the chance Logan Square residents have been waiting for—to finally have someone care about their opinions of craft brews.
Tickets are available for presale at $30. They can be bought online at brewerschoice.ticketleap.com. Day-of wristbands—which include access to all the tap beers from 7-10 pm—will be $35. Guests will be treated to swag from breweries as well as DJs throughout the night.

Five-Year Revolution
Revolution Brewing (2323 N. Milwaukee Ave.) is celebrating its five-year anniversary with an expansion of its Avondale brewery and tap room, located at 3340 N. Kedzie Ave. Rev Brew will celebrate with Andrew W.K. at the Riviera Theatre (4746 N. Racine Ave.) on March 13. The 5 Years Anniversary Party will feature the King of Party as well as local band The Beer Nuts, Ordwell, Superfriends DJs and Justin “Nordic Thunder” Howard, the 2012 World Air Guitar Champion.
Beers will be available for $4 that night (a “party price”). Partygoers can try the Anti-Hero IPA, Bottom Up Wit, Eugene Porter, A Little Crazy, 5th Year Beer, Straight Jacket, Bean Gene, Deth’s Tar, Jukebox Hero, Local Hero, Galaxy Hero, Uncalled Four and Small ‘n Oats (writer’s note: I will be drinking this all night out of principle). If the stars aligned correctly, it will also be the world premiere of Fist City in cans.
As if the local brewery hasn’t given its fans enough, it also promises some awesome party favors for guests.
Tickets are $27.50 and can be purchased at either the Vic or the Revolution Brewery on Kedzie sans service fees. Otherwise, tickets can be bought here.
New Ventures From Scofflaw
The Scofflaw Group, the brains behind two of Logan Square’s favorite bars Scofflaw (3201 W. Armitage Ave.) and Slippery Slope (2357 N. Milwaukee Ave.), has confirmed that it will be opening up two new spots in the neighborhood: a tiki bar and a seafood restaurant that will open next month. Those in the know are remaining mum on the details, but have confirmed that they will be in Logan Square.
