A week of relative calm in Logan Square was tragically interrupted by a shooting in front of FoodSmart Urban Market that left one man injured and another dead.
The shooting, which the Chicago Sun-Times said appears to be gang-related, happened shortly before midnight on May 13, when four people got into a fight in the parking lot of FoodSmart, at 2901 W. Armitage Ave. One of the suspects pulled a gun and shot 19-year-old Jonathan Garcia, of the 3300 block of West Palmer Ave., in the chest. An unidentified 33-year-old man was also struck in the shoulder and neck area and went to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where his condition stabilized.
Garcia, who Ald. Joe Moreno identified as member of the Latin Lovers, was pronounced dead 30 minutes later at Illinois Masonic.
This is the second shooting in the immediate area in 10 days; a 15-year-old boy was shot outside of the nearby Walgreens on May 4.
Moreno announced plans to host a community meeting with 14th District police to discuss the shootings.
