It’s been quite a ride since LoganSquarist’s humble beginnings as a fledging Twitter account. Today, we’ve grown to a staff of 20 dedicated, creative and fun volunteers bringing their writing, photography, events planning and marketing skills to an organization aimed on socializing the neighborhood of Logan Square.
We do this through the articles you read here, sharing awesome happenings throughout the area and providing a neighborhood directory of businesses you’re likely to patronize. Additionally, we host variety of events including our monthly Neighbor Meetups—a feature that has been around even longer than this website—and other unique events such as our recent and successful Taco Crawl.
LoganSquarist is truly a product of passionate neighbors wanting to get involved in their community, share their talents and build something as unique and amazing as this neighborhood we love. And we certainly couldn’t do this without loyal readers digging what we do either.
As the neighborhood grows, so do our aspirations and needs. Some of our plans include expanding our editorial coverage, sharing more community-based stories and updating the site more frequently. We’d love to publish seven days a week, and provide more coverage of community issues, crime and politics.

Call for Writers and Interns
To help us grow, we’re seeking volunteer writers to join our dedicated and fun team. These folks will pitch, report and write stories on a monthly basis, and have the opportunity to share stories in the community, work with a community of journalists and develop reporting skills. Writers also will own a beat—and in so doing, develop unique relationships throughout the community and create a portfolio of content around a specific topic.
Specifically, we’re looking for writers with a real passion for any of the following topics:
- Crime writer(s) will write weekly or biweekly summaries of crime reports in Logan Square and create some of our most popular articles. They will learn writing and reporting skills and ethics in crime reporting.
- Food & Drink writer(s) will write weekly or biweekly updates on restaurant, bar and food venue news in the neighborhood, drawing from both published news and original reporting. They will learn reporting and feature writing skills.
- Business writer(s) will report and write stories on local business developments in Logan Square outside of food and drink, both aggregating news and reporting original stories. They will learn reporting and writing skills in both traditional and feature reporting.
- Arts & Entertainment writer(s) will report and write stories on arts and entertainment in Logan Square, including potential specialties in theater, visual arts and books. They will learn interviewing and feature writing skills.
You Don’t Have To Be A Writer
Not a writer? No worries. We have a number of other positions available, and love collaborating on new ideas. Specifically, we’re looking for a managing editor to help out on editorial and store promotions manager to take our merchandise store to the next level (think: unique store concept for the area). Have a unique skill or talent you’d like to bring to the team? I’d love to unite your passion with our mission.
