The Illinois Craft Distillers Association (ICDA) is taking over Logan Square Auditorium (2539 N. Kedzie Blvd.) for its first annual DistIllinois event on Tuesday, March 1.
The 21 distilleries that make up ICDA are working to bring public awareness to the craft spirits in their backyard, and the tasting event will be a significant step in that direction.
With 20 Illinois distilleries and 24 guest distillers from around the country scheduled to attend the event, attendees will experience some of the best craft spirits Illinois has to offer—and then some. Chicago is well represented at the event, as Chicago Distilling Company, Rhine Hall, Maplewood Brewery & Distillery, KOVAL and CH Distillery will be participating.
Noelle DiPrizio, vice president and co-founder of Chicago Distilling Company (2359 N. Milwaukee Ave.) and a member of the ICDA Board of Directors, outlines what we can expect from the event.
“We are partnering with the US Bartenders’ Guild. Each distillery is matched with one bartender who will learn about their spirits and collaborate with them on a special cocktail for the event. There has been a great response from bartenders around the city!”
Mixologists from some of Chicago’s favorite bars will be creating the drinks, including Meghan Konecny of Scofflaw (3201 W. Armitage Ave.), Kelley Mandolini of Punch Bowl Social and Graham Courter of The Matchbox.
The tasting experience will feature rare varieties and brand new offerings from many of the purveyors; Chicago Distilling Company fans will get some of the first tastes of the distiller’s newly released bourbon and absinthe.
DiPrizio says that the Logan Square neighborhood is “a natural fit” for the event, citing the buzz around food and drink in the area as a primary draw.
DistIllinois will be held Tuesday, March 1 from 5:30-10 pm. Tickets are available for purchase here.
