Summer in Chicago is right around the corner and with it will come the most revered time of year: patio season. But sometimes, you’re not the only one who wants to drink and dine in the sunshine — our canine companions are itching to un-hibernate as much as we are. It’s no secret that Logan Square has an ongoing love affair with all things puppy and for some of our neighborhood gems, that feeling is mutual. So the next time you want to show Spot a good time, check out one of these dog-friendly places!

Parson’s Chicken & Fish (2952 W. Armitage Ave.)
With an enormous patio and an impressive lineup of frozen cocktails, it’s no wonder Parson’s Chicken & Fish has become a Logan Square summertime staple and veritable doggy playground. This year, Parson’s is kicking off its patio season on May 29 with a block party to celebrate its third anniversary, and if you think the fun stops there, the restaurant is bringing back its bocce ball league (sign-up here).
Catalpa Kitchen (2800 W. Logan Blvd.)
Nestled in the heart of Logan Boulevard is the unassuming Catalpa Kitchen, feeding Logan Squarists Modern American fare for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The seasonal patio overlooks the bustling cross streets of Logan and California, so if you and your pup enjoy some people/dog watching, this tree-lined patio is the place for you. Check out the newly revamped brunch menu and then maybe take a stroll along the boulevard to work off that creme brulee french toast or brunch poutine.
Hopewell Brewing (2760 N. Milwaukee Ave.)
Hopewell Brewing is a new and welcome addition to the Logan Square family of watering holes, and while it doesn’t have a patio the bright, cavernous interior and large windows will let you and your dog enjoy the beauty of summer in the comfort of the indoors. Besides, patio or no patio, summer is synonymous with puppies and pale ales, and at Hopewell, you’ll get the best of both worlds. Plus, with complimentary board games available and food trucks popping by (bartenders are armed with dog treats so your pooch won’t miss out on snack time, too), it won’t be hard to while away a lazy summer afternoon in this haven of beer and air conditioning.
Wyler Road (3581 W. Belden Ave.)
Hidden away from the main Logan Square thoroughfares of Milwaukee and Kedzie Avenues is a small spot with some major sandwich and cocktail chops. Bring your pooch to Wyler Road’s summer patio if you’re looking for some quiet time and get your noms on with their newest sandwich, The Gatsby — a masterpiece of seared bologna, piri piri short rib, calamari, french fries, spicy pickles, and malt aioli on a batard. Have a sweet tooth? Treat yourself to one of their boozy floats; even grown-ups need a milkshake every once in awhile.
Bang Bang Pie Shop (2051 N. California Ave.)
How many neighborhoods in Chicago can say they have a pie garden? Probably not many, but it doesn’t matter because Logan Square sure has one (#blessed). While pies rule the roost at Bang Bang Pie Shop, you can also nibble on grits, biscuits, and savory pies while your pup lounges at your side trying to figure out how to get his own paws on some tasty treats.
There are plenty of other dog-friendly places in the neighborhood but hopefully this list is just the beginning of many food and drink adventures for you and your pup.
