On my regular walk home from the train I had been noticing a place that opened up quite recently. Inspired by my personal obsession for pastries and the colorful sign that says “Pasteleria,” which translates to pastry shop, I decided to give it a go and step in to check it out. To my surprise, it turns out that only a couple steps down from the original Fat Rice restaurant is their new bakery. The Bakery at Fat Rice (2951 W. Diversey Ave.) has now been open to the public since July 6.
What’s most special about this place is the interesting fusion in their baked goods, having an inspiring blend of Asian and Portuguese cuisine. It was featured in our recent article on five great neighborhood bakeries.
As if that wasn’t awesome enough, it turns out that their bakery hours of operation are from 7 am-2 pm, but once the baking madness is over and out, the bakery will then turn into a bar called Petisco, which will be opening with the rest of the restaurant for dinner at 5:30 pm as well.
So not only do they offer an amazing environment and comfortable seating for customers but also such a wide variety of goods, that it’s definitely tempting to want to keep coming back and trying something new from their menu each time. If you happen to be strolling down the intersections of Diversey and Sacramento around those times, then walk over to Fat Rice’s new bakery because this is a place you definitely want to give a try!
