What’s your role with LoganSquarist?
Marketing Director and staff writer, although I will admit it’s been a bit since I’ve written!
Where are you from originally?
That’s a dizzying question. I grew up in a suburb of Detroit, attended university in Indiana, worked in Southern China, attended school again in New York and eventually found myself in Naples, Fla. But after nearly seven years, I traded the salty beach for blues and moved to the Windy City. I’ve been in Logan Square for a year and a half.
When did you join?
I joined LoganSquarist in July, I believe? How time has flown!
Do you do marketing professionally?
I do. I work as a marketing manager and copywriter at an agency and freelance as a writer, producer and content producer. All that is a fancy way of saying I accept money for creating written or visual stories used for marketing purposes.
What made you interested in joining the marketing team for LoganSquarist?
I began as a writer because my background is in journalism. However, as I continue to grow in my marketing career I wanted an opportunity to challenge myself leading a team and the strategic direction of an organization. Kate Hamilton, being a marketing whiz and a wise, trusting woman, granted me the opportunity, and I’ve been so grateful. I’ve learned a lot and am very proud of our team.
What is your favorite LoganSquarist marketing campaign you ran?
I think we had a lot of fun as a team during the promotion for the Paulie Gee’s meetup event. As a team, we developed some hilarious social posts and we were on our game with our email blasts, which were also clever and engaging. Finally, we were able to begin a new promotion: a preview or post-event written piece. This gives businesses hosting our meetups another opportunity to be featured, and it helps us capture why we do what we do and who the amazing people are behind the scenes working to make it all happen.
Despite filling all available spaces at the event, we never ran out of pizza. We also had a lot of entertaining social media contest contributions.
What’s your favorite thing to do in the neighborhood?
I love attending live music shows; there is no limit to the talent in Logan Square and the venues willing to test limits of an Eminence speaker system. I mean, have you seen the dude from Whitney or Cullen Omori wandering around? Still gotta tell that guy that “Cinnamon” is one of my most favorite songs.
Also, I just love wandering around. Even though my sweet little dog is 11 years old, she has boundless energy, so that helps me get out and about and see what’s happening. I’m grateful to be in a culturally vibrant community where there is always something new to learn and eat.
What has been the best part about joining the team?
The friendships. I moved to Logan Square from Naples, Fla., completely new. I knew a handful of people and hadn’t lived in such confusing weather in nearly 10 years. Joining LoganSquarist has allowed me to get to know my neighborhood and feel a connection the community, thereby helping it feel like home. LoganSquarist has provided me a wonderful new group of hardworking and smart friends that I adore and appreciate.
