What’s your role with LoganSquarist?
I’m a staff writer who focuses mainly on Logan Square history.
Where are you from originally?
I was born in Weatherford, Texas, but grew up in Naperville.
When did you join?
March 2017
Do you write professionally?
Nope! In my 9-5 life, I’m a Web Manager and focus on web project management and design.
What made you interested in writing for LoganSquarist?
I studied journalism in college (what up, Columbia College Chicago?), but didn’t pursue a career in that field (what up, Recession of 2008?). I’ve really missed writing and telling interesting stories, so when I saw that LoganSquarist was looking for writers, I figured this was my chance to get to know more about my neighborhood and scratch my writing itch.
What is your favorite LoganSquarist story you wrote?
That’s tough! I’ve written about some cool things. My favorite is probably From Parking Lot to Paradise: The Saga of Unity Park because the community activism reminds me of Parks & Recreation, and it’s inspiring to learn about the people who have helped build up Logan Square.
What is your favorite restaurant in Logan Square?
It’s a tie: I LOVE the Popeye pizza at Reno, but I have the same level of affection for the Cheesy Italian at Ground Control!
What’s your favorite thing to do in the neighborhood?
My favorite thing is probably going for walks around the neighborhood. The architecture is fun to look at, people watching is always entertaining, and there are so many stretches of nice grass for me to lay on if I succumb to laziness.
What has been the best part about joining the team?
Meeting new people! I’m a total homebody, so it takes effort for me to leave my apartment and my adorable dog. The LoganSquarist team is totally worth it, and I’ve met some really nice and fun people at LS events.
