What’s your role with LoganSquarist?
I’m a Food + Drink writer for LoganSquarist.
Where are you from originally?
I’m originally from a suburb about forty-five minutes west of Chicago called Carol Stream.
When did you join?
I joined LoganSquarist in 2015 after my friend, Elisa Fritz, convinced me to volunteer.
Do you write professionally?
I do not write professionally, but maybe someday!
What made you interested in writing for LoganSquarist?
I was interested in writing for LoganSquarist because I love the neighborhood’s restaurant and bar scene, and I really enjoy writing. Joining this group was the perfect way to align these two passions.
What is your favorite LoganSquarist story you wrote?
I have two favorites! I loved writing “Brunching in Logan Square: From Asia, With Love” because I got to collaborate with one of my closest friends and former Photographer Editor Elisa Fritz. It was the best excuse to spend a few afternoons together exploring different restaurants in the neighborhood.
My other favorite story is “Lovin from the Oven: Five Logan Square Bakeries” because it was a great opportunity to feature not just new and well-known spots, but also the bakeries that have been in the neighborhood for so many years. And, as a baker, it was really fun to see how many different kinds of baked goods exist in Logan Square.
What is your favorite restaurant in Logan Square?
Oh, no! There are way too many to choose from. I love Daisies, Giant, and Mi Tocaya Antojeria for a big night out. Parts & Labor is still my favorite place in the city for a burger, and I’ll usually dream about Los Comales if I’m craving tacos. And if I want to be lazy and indulgent, Choi’s Chinese is my go-to for delivery.
What’s your favorite thing to do in the neighborhood?
My absolute favorite thing to do in the neighborhood is to hang out with my husband and friends over some great beers at Hopewell (note my photo for this article).
What has been the best part about joining the team?
The best part about joining LoganSquarist has been having the opportunity to combine two things I love: writing and food. Meeting and working with amazing people has also been a wonderful perk to being part of this group.
