For those still mourning the loss of the landmark Double Door in Wicker Park, rejoice: After searching high and low for a home, The Double Door has found a partner in The Owl (2521 N. Milwaukee Ave.) in Logan Square, hosting “Double Door Presents,” a free monthly concert showcase.
This alliance was forged by the minds of Four Entertainment Group (4EG) Managing Partner David Halpern, 4EG Operations Manager Scott Spidale and Jesse Ewan, Double Door’s Front of House Engineer/Talent Buyer/Production Manager.
“When discussing possible spots to keep the Double Door flame alive after the eviction, The Owl seemed like an obvious choice because of our relationship with the bar and their capability to host unique, eclectic, live and local music on occasion,” Ewan said.
According to DNAinfo (RIP) back in October 2017, The Double Door group was close to finalizing a deal to move into the former Central Furniture Mart at (1348-1352 N. Milwaukee Ave.), a mere two blocks south of the club’s original location at Milwaukee and Damen. But like so many restaurants and small businesses, Wicker Park’s loss is Logan Square’s gain.
The Owl, perched at a quieter bit of Logan Square, has been a cool yet cozy venue for musical acts since 2011, also available for private parties and always open late. With its 20 beers on tap and array of cocktails, The Owl is great place to party with friends till 4 a.m.: those of us lucky enough to live within walking distance can stroll home and walk off our buzz of the evening. It was also featured in the latest season of Easy, confirming the neighborhood stereotype of it being a popular local hangout.
As the weather warms up and the snow fades away, these free monthly concerts are a great way to welcome the spring season.
