Light from the spacious studio at Logan Square Pilates + Core (2771 N. Milwaukee Ave.) beckons passersby on the Milwaukee strip where beginner and advanced students meet to do everything from vinyasa yoga to private sessions with impressive pilates equipment.
February marked the one month anniversary of the studio founded by local creatives Chelsea Katz, Kristi Wood and Aileen May. Judging by the current fitness vacuum in Logan Square, the studio couldn’t have arrived at a better time.
Its mission statement is focused on fostering attitudes of body positivity and self-care while enabling students to practice pilates as Joseph Pilates originally intended; this spirit truly shines from each of its owners and instructors.
Groups of eight to 10 students can experience pilates, yoga and barre classes in the front studio while smaller groups (maximum of four) can work in the back studio on pilates machines including reformers, the Cadillac, and the chair. Private lessons are available with assisted stretching—and a welcome introduction to the intimidating machines for beginners. In addition to traditional class offerings, Logan Square Pilates + Core also provides prenatal and postnatal lessons.
Not only are the owners warm and knowledgeable, but they also aim to connect with the surrounding area.
“It’s really important to the community that we give back as much as we can,” Wood said.
To do this, they have lowered their margins and have been offering special free classes as well as partnering with popular local businesses. Their most recent event introduced a special deal on class packages at both Five Point Holistic Health and Logan Square Pilates + Core.
Interested students can attend the official launch party on Saturday, March 24 at 4 p.m. to learn about the studio and services, demo the equipment, meet the instructors, and enjoy appetizers and drinks from local restaurants and watering holes. More information can be found on Logan Square Pilates + Core’s website and Facebook page.
