Known for their espresso machine innovation, La Marzocco hosted their touring barista competition, “Crush the Rush!” in select cities across the U.S., making a pit stop in Chicago at Caffè Umbria’s Logan Square location (2545 W. Armitage Ave.) Aug. 7. Eight teams comprised of three baristas each competed in a head-to-head style, single-elimination tournament for a trophy and a cash prize of $300. Caffè Umbria provided refreshments for spectators as they watched each team race against the clock to deliver eight carefully-crafted drinks to the judges before time ran out, or before their opponent got there first. Accompanied by pop tunes and a cheering audience, the event served up a lot of entertainment for all involved. Check out a video recap of the event below.
