Community members joined the Woodard Cultural Alliance (WCA) Saturday, Aug. 11 to get rid of an excessive amount of weeds that had grown in Woodard Plaza, at the corner of Kimball and Milwaukee on the border of Avondale. It’s the area right next to Crown Liquors and now looks much more like a garden space than previously. Even children got to work and helped with some weeding.
It is WCA’s goal to keep the plaza clean and a nice place for community gatherings and events. Though the process of making Woodard Plaza an even more welcoming space will take time (the WCA is planning on planting flowers next spring), that doesn’t stop it from continuing to be used for public events.
For the next three Thursdays in August, Woodard Plaza will host Moods + Foods, where the community is invited to join for food from local eateries and a variety performances.
