What do you get when you combine flavor, fermentation and festivities? The first-ever Act Natural: Natural Wine and Wild Beer Festival put on by the team at the progressive Hopewell Brewing Co will get hoppy this weekend.
What is natural wine, you ask? It is typically made organically and without adding or removing anything in the cellar. No additives or aids are used in the processing and minimal filtration is completed, which gives you a delicious living wine! And wild beer? You may have had a sour or two this summer—tart and refreshing—but wild beers aren’t necessarily sours. What makes a beer wild is the presence of wild yeast or some other kind of uncontrolled or unconventional microflora.
This funky festival, which is sold out, will take place at Sleeping Village (3734 W. Belmont) on Aug. 10. Starting at 1 p.m., there will be over 10 wild beer/cider vendors including local favorites like Hopewell, Half Acre Beer Co., Dovetail Brewery, and Whiner Beer Company. The wine selection will include All Together Now, Cream Wine Company, Diversey Wine and many more.
“Act Natural will serve as the perfect entryway for those looking to geek out on all things off-kilter or get a little loose while enjoying Hopewell’s favorite natural wines and wild beers from small producers across the region and beyond,” said Samantha Lee, co-founder of Hopewell Brewing.
