Every year, each alderman gets $1.3 million for ward infrastructure improvements known as “Aldermanic menu money,” through the city’s Capital Improvement Program.
The 35th Ward announced what it will spend its money on: alleys and sidewalk repairs in Logan Square, Hermosa, Avondale and Albany Park.
“In the 35th Ward, since 2015, we have empowered residents to decide how to spend $1 million of our Aldermanic menu money – whether it be fixing specific curbs, repaving certain streets, or installing bike lanes – through participatory budgeting,” Alderman Carlos Ramirez-Rosa said in his Nov. 10 newsletter.
The needs of the community is determined by voting from residents, which came to a close last week in the 35th Ward. The winners of the 35th Ward 2020 cycle are:
- Alley Resurfacing for a total of $700,000 in public funding towards alleys in Albany Park, Hermosa, Avondale, and Logan Square
- Sidewalk Repairs with a total of $300,000 in public funding towards sidewalk repairs in Avondale and Logan Square at the following locations:
- Barry Between Sawyer North Side Sidewalk
- 3300 N. Drake, West Sidewalk
- 2300 N. Hamlin, East Side Sidewalk
- 3300 W. Altgeld, North Side Sidewalk
