LoganSquarist wouldn’t be possible without the hard-working efforts of our dedicated staff. What’s your role with LoganSquarist?
Staff writer.
Where are you from originally?
I’m from the Northwest suburbs. Ever since I was a kid I always wanted to live in the city, and I guess now I do.
When did you join?
Fall 2018.
Do you write professionally?
No, I work for a public relations firm, where I focus mostly on media relations.
What have you been working on recently?
I just finished writing a story about the origin of the Dill Pickle Co-op’s name. The topic was a rabbit hole I tumbled down after reading about Chicago artist and designer Edgar Miller, who was associated with the radical Dill Pickle Club, the co-op’s namesake. Miller is kind of forgotten today, but was extremely prolific and had a unique style that was inspired in part by his love of nature and the American West. I think at one point he worked as a beekeeper in Australia before moving to Chicago.
What made you interested in volunteering for LoganSquarist?
I wanted an opportunity to write more frequently, and to do writing that’s just for me (and our readers), instead of for a client. It also seemed like a way to better connect with my neighborhood.
What are some of your story highlights?
I’ve had the chance to interview some really interesting people, including a bookbinder, a shoemaker and an expert on natural wines. I seem to be drawn to people who chose to pursue their passions and kind of exist outside corporate America. It was also a good experience to cover the fair housing rally on Palm Sunday earlier this year.
What is your favorite restaurant or hang out in Logan Square?
Maza Azul is nearby and kind of our home base. For lunch or breakfast on the weekend, it’s hard to beat Same Day Café or La Boulangerie. We’re spoiled in this neighborhood when it comes to food.
What’s your favorite thing to do in the neighborhood?
My wife says I should say “walking the dog.”
What has been the best part about joining the team?
Getting to know and work alongside some fun and talented folks has been one of the best parts about joining.
Read more of Tim’s articles here and say hi if you see him walking his small white dog in the neighborhood!
