It’s not always easy to get started in a career, and digital marketing—which encompasses everything from search engine optimization to e-commerce, web development and social media—is no exception.
That’s why Logan Square firm SEO Design Chicago (3580 W. Belden Ave.) recently launched a new scholarship program to help young marketers kick-start their careers. The company recently awarded its first $1,000 scholarship to Kristen Capuzzo, a student at Quinnipiac University in Connecticut, and plans to continue offering additional scholarships each semester.
“Ever since I was five and helping my older sister dominate in her Girl Scout cookie sales, I have always been interested in effective marketing and sales,” said Nick Antonopoulos, SEO Design Chicago’s chief marketing officer. “We created this scholarship so that we can give back just a little to those coming up in this industry that we’re passionate about,” he said.
Antonopoulos decided to launch his own company in 2015 along with the company’s COO, Matt Schnelle, after the two became disenchanted working for larger agencies. SEO Design Chicago works out of the first floor of a residential building in Logan Square and also has a team of writers, developers and marketing experts located in different cities across the U.S.
The company’s scholarship program is intended to help offset education costs for students with a demonstrated passion for digital marketing. To qualify, candidates must have completed at least one year of college, hold a minimum GPA of 3.0, and have plans to major in a field related to digital marketing.
“Digital marketing is way more than just technology,” said scholarship winner Kristen Capuzzo in her application. “It is social media, and branding, and search engines…so many things that all intertwine to shape our decisions and our lives, and it is fascinating.”
