Have you been feeling a little cooped up lately?
If so, the 10th annual Windy City Coop Tour, taking place Sept. 19-20, is great excuse to venture out into the neighborhood and meet some backyard chickens.
The Windy City Coop Tour, now in its 10th year, showcases backyard poultry, eco-yards and urban livestock across Chicago. During this self-guided tour, hosts open their yards to visitors and share their experience keeping backyard livestock in an urban setting.
“We keep backyard chickens because they are a great addition to our urban homestead,” said Logan Square tour participant Kristen DeLap. “We love the tour because of the sense of community around urban agriculture and chicken keeping.”
This year’s coop walk includes three stops in Logan Square (with several more in nearby neighborhoods such as Avondale and Humboldt Park):
- 2444 N. Talman Ave.
- 2421 N Francisco Ave.
- 2448 N. Springfield Ave.
You can find more information and map your route on the Windy City Coop Tour’s handy Google map.
The event is free and open to the public but please note that dogs are not allowed. To ensure the safety of hosts and participants, this year masks are also required when entering any property.
