Last month, we partnered with Union (2202 N. California Ave.) to kick off the LoganSquarist Dinner Series. This new event program partners with some of Logan Square’s hottest dining spots to celebrate the neighborhood’s culinary scene. The restaurant was abuzz as neighbors came together for two sold-out seatings of a three-course, curated menu.
The meal kicked off with a choice of appetizer. At the LoganSquarist staff table, we enjoyed the bresaola tartine featuring crescenza cheese, sage and blackberry balsamic served with sourdough. The balanced, layered flavors got us excited for what was to come! An additional appetizer course option featured a smoked white trout served on griddled rye. This dish reaffirmed Lardon’s speakeasy Meadowlark’s stellar reputation for spectacular flavors and welcoming presentation.
We added the dirty pimento from the full menu, a Wisconsin cheddar dip mixed with smoked peppers, green onion and minced salami and served with everything spice crackers. With our generous appetizer course under our belt, we continued onto our mains.

Pictured from our mains is the cavatelli alla vodka dish, a hand-rolled pasta served in a homemade vodka sauce with cherry tomato, beech mushroom, wilted spinach, ricotta salata and basil. Others at the table chose the Union burger (not pictured), an 8-ounce brisket patty served with two-year-aged Wisconsin cheddar, fried onion strings and bone marrow aioli on brioche, with Yukon gold potatoes on the side.
Lastly, we sampled the blood orange verrine, a cheesecake panna cotta served with citrus and pistachio crumble. Our tablemates snacked on sugared brioche doughnuts (not pictured) that came with a raspberry jam and honey lavender custard.
Aside from gaining new friends and full bellies our guests each took home a Union pint glass, drink tokens and some LoganSquarist swag to remember the evening.
About Union
Union is a restaurant and beer hall, a concept from the owners of Lardon (2200 N. California Ave.). Taking over a 110-year-old corner building steps away from the California Blue Line stop earlier this year, the spot boasts “an abundance of local beer,” including 24 local offerings on tap, and “new American cuisine.” The restaurant also offers a boutique wine list and wide selection of whiskeys, alongside a food menu with “dark and moody” vibes, as Union chef Chris Thompson told Block Club Chicago.
