Unlicensed Driver Runs Into Jibaritos Restaurant
A car crash at the intersection of Fullerton and Kimball Aug. 20 sent a car into the front of Jibaritos y Mas (3400 W. Fullerton Ave.), causing nine total injuries, ABC7 reported.
There were about eight people inside the restaurant, an employee said. In all, nine people were taken to various hospitals, some in serious condition, while nine other people on the scene declined medical treatment.
The driver of one of the two cars involved in the collision was cited for failure to stop at a red light, striking fixed property and driving without a license or proof of insurance.
There is no immediate update on the status of Jibaritos y Mas, one of the top-rated restaurants for the Puerto Rican sandwiches invented in Humboldt Park 20 years ago.

A 20-year-old man was killed in a drive-by shooting the night of Aug. 20 in the 2700 block of North Harding Avenue near Kosciuszko Park.
The man was standing on the sidewalk when a car drove by and someone inside fired shots. The man, who has not been identified, was struck in the head. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
A former writer for LoganSquarist witnessed the shooting from his home. He said two shots were fired and it was evident the victim had died. He said police came to his home about an hour after the shooting to take a statement.
Man With Assault Rifle on Robbery, Carjacking Spree
A man armed with an assault rifle conducted a string of robberies and carjackings the weekend of Aug. 13 in Logan Square, Bucktown and Avondale, including three carjackings and the robbery of an ice cream truck.
WGN reported that three cars were stolen Aug. 13 by the man. The thefts took place in the 2700 block of North Western Ave. (Logan Square, near Owen & Engine), the 3000 block of North Sawyer Ave. (Avondale, at Wellington Avenue, a block west of Carniceria Ruiz) and the 2600 block of Elston Ave. (Logan Square, near Strack & Van Til).
The same man robbed an ice cream truck in the 3000 block of North Sawyer Ave. It is unclear if this is the same robbery as the reported carjacking in that block. DNAinfo reported that the man walked up to the truck while it was serving patrons and demanded the money from the truck. He also pointed the gun at a man waiting to buy ice cream.
The suspect is described as a black man between 25 and 42 years old, between 5-11 and 6-4 in height and 170 to 180 pounds. He was wearing a maroon cardigan, brown polo shirt and gray sweatpants.
Child Arrested in 606 Assault, Potential Suspect in ‘Hate Crime’ Assault
A 13-year-old girl was arrested in connection with the Aug. 9 assault of a woman on The 606 Trail. The girl, whose name has not been released, has been charged with one count of battery for striking the woman in the head, DNAinfo reported.
It was not clear if the girl would be prosecuted as an adult or a juvenile.
The girl was one of a group that attacked the woman on the trail. It is suspected that the same group had previously attacked a man walking his dog July 30 near the intersection of Spaulding and Milwaukee. The victim in that case obtained security footage from nearby businesses, and he said the victim in the 606 assault identified some of the attackers as the same people who accosted her.
