If you’ve always been looking for a way to gain weight and lose weight in the same weekend, then you’re in luck. St. John Berchmans School (2511 W. Logan Blvd.) is hosting a two-prong benefit for both Friday and Saturday.
Founded in 1905, St. John Berchmans parish (named after a Belgian saint) was formed by the largely Belgian community at the time. Fast forward more than 100 years, and they have a school to accompany church services. The pre-K to eighth-grade Catholic school is open to all faiths, and generous daycare hours accommodate working parents.
To support the school, members of the community are invited to attend an event this weekend, which includes both food trucks and a run.
Friday, May 12th: Food Truck and Beer
Friday is the St. John Berchmans School Food Truck Event. Expect food trucks from Cheesies, 5411 Empanadas and The Fat Shallot. Pastries will be offered by Bang Bang Pie & Biscuits, with beer provided by Revolution Brew and New Belgium Brewing Company.
The food fest will convene at 2511 W. Logan Blvd. from 4 – 7 p.m., kind of an outdoor Happy Hour. Bring your friends, load up on carbs and find out why St. John Berchmans School is a pillar of the community.
Saturday, May 13th: Boulevard Bolt 5K
The St. John Berchmans Boulevard Bolt is in Humboldt Park starting at 9 a.m., near the corner of California and Division. Children and adults are invited to attend and compete.
Wintrust Bank is the presenting sponsor, and there are many prizes for the winners. Students get prizes from Play, a Logan Square-based toy & book store. Adults get $20 off their next haircut and products from Sola Salon Studios. There are various other prizes, like a free month’s membership at Orange Theory.
While this is St. John Berchmans School’s first 5K marathon, there are many seasonal events sponsored by the parish to fund the school.
